About
Kristin Mapel Bloomberg is professor and chair of women's studies at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she also holds the Hamline University Endowed Chair in the Humanities. She received her PhD from the University of Nebraska, her MA from St. Cloud State University (MN), and her BA from Hamline University.
As professor women's studies, Dr. Bloomberg teaches the program's core curriculum including the introductory course, survey of feminist theory, and the senior seminar in women's studies. In addition, she teaches a variety of interdisciplinary electives that are often cross-listed with other programs such as history, English, or social justice, including "Women and Popular Culture," "Women of the Prairies and Plains," "History of Women Organizing for Social Change," and "Beyond Heaving Bosoms: Gender and the Popular Romance Novel."
Dr. Bloomberg's research interests focus on the history, culture, and literature of American women of the long nineteenth century in the Trans-Mississippi West. She has published on a variety of topics such as women's social and civic organizations, woman suffrage, women and early co-education, and women-authored journals and novels. She is currently at work on a biography of Nebraska woman's rights advocate Clara Bewick Colby.
